Chianh Mai Declaration :

Contribution inspires commitment,

Commmitment inspires contribution

(2008 Asia and Pacific Regional Health Impact Assessment Conference Organizing Committee 24 April 2009 Chiang Mai, Thailand)

Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is developed to ensure and enable
healthy public policy in all levels, from community level to national and
international levels. Achieving the successful HIA in practice is challenging.
True commitment and contribution from all stakeholders are crucial
in determining the success of HIA implementation.

Being well aware of this, HIA 2008 conference was organized as the
first Asia Pacific HIA conference aiming to present and to exchange the
knowledge and experience on HIA in all levels leading to commitment
to further collaboratively develop HIA in the Asia Pacific and to assure
the sustainable social and economic development. As a result, the
Chiang Mai Declaration (CMD) is developed.

The process of CMD developing started in 2008 with the participation
and involvement of all stakeholders and relevant partners. CMD aims
to reflect strong determination and commitment of all relevant sectors
in the Asia Pacific region in taking HIA as a tool and process to empower
the people in the region as well as to ensure health for all.
